Teen’s Death, Annual Meeting News Top June Most-Read List

CHICAGO, IL (July 5, 2007) – Coverage of events surrounding the abduction and murder of a Kansas teenager and the Evangelical Covenant Church’s 2007 Annual Meeting were among the most read stories in the denomination’s online news report for the month of June.

Readers were intensely interested in the prayer and memorial services for Kelsey Smith, the 18-year-old from a Kansas City, Kansas, suburb, whose murder captured national media attention. A prayer vigil was held at Hillcrest Covenant Church in Prairie Village, Kansas, where her family attends.

The congregation’s pastor, Mark Seversen, spoke during her memorial service, which was webcast live. A story about Smith’s parents seeking to encourage the murdered teen’s friends inspired many.

The special page hosting all of the news about the denomination’s 122nd Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon, was the most accessed page during the month.
