Houlette subsequently learned of the Educate the Girls initiative, which helps provide the necessary funding for high school girls in Congo to pay the fee to take the final exam that allows them to continue their education. The program is operated in partnership with the Congo Evangelical Covenant Church (CEUM). To read a 2004 online news story about the program, please see “Educate the Girls.”
Houlette showed a short clip of the project from the DVD produced by Women Ministries at a student chapel two days before the charity concert. At the May 4th concert, she introduced the Educate the Girls project and showed a longer clip of the DVD.
Houlette, her mother, several CAJ students, and several CAJ faculty performed instrumental and vocal pieces. The accompanying photo shows (from left) Jeweliann, her orchestra teacher, and her mother. To order a copy of the DVD, visit the online Covenant Bookstore.
