CHICAGO, IL (March 31, 2007) – Women Ministries of the Evangelical Covenant Church is planning an around-the-world walking trip, encompassing 24,000 miles as they prepare for Triennial XII.

No one individual will be walking the entire distance, of course. Executive Minister Ruth Hill says she hopes that not only women, but men, youth and children will register to combine miles of walking that eventually will equal a trip spanning the globe.

Prayer Walk 2007 will begin May 1, which is 100 days before the start of Triennial XII, to be held August 9-12 in Chicago. Designed to promote both physical and spiritual fitness, the project will provide walkers with Triennial XII prayer requests updated weekly that can be downloaded from the Triennial XII website.

Those who register for Prayer Walk 2007 will receive a prayer walking kit, including a tee-shirt, visor and lanyard with plastic pouch for the prayer requests and access to a website where they can log miles the miles they have walked.

Walkers will then see the total number of prayer walkers registered, the cumulative miles walked, and the miles remaining toward reaching the 24,000-mile mark.  As the number of miles reaches the distance to a country from which one of the international guests is coming, that country and guest will be featured on the Triennial XII website.

Cost for the kit is $10.

Women Ministries is collaborating on the project with Church Growth and Evangelism’s prayer ministries, North Park Theological Seminary’s Center for Faith and Health, and Galter LifeCenter.
