CHICAGO, IL (January 3, 2007) – Jack Surridge, North Park University athletic director and women’s basketball coach, reached the milestone of 500 victories on Friday, when the Vikings earned a 65-52 victory over the Rockford College Regents.

Surridge has coached for more than 30 years. According to the news site D3hoops.com, he ranks fifth in all-time victories among NCAA Division III women’s basketball coaches.

“It’s gratifying,” Surridge said of his accomplishment. “For the most part I didn’t think about it, but there were a couple of moments right before the game, and after that I thought about it.”

The milestone was only the latest in a long list of highlights for Surridge, who is in his eleventh year at North Park. He is the only NCAA Division III coach to win over 100 games at three institutions and has been honored as Coach of the Year at the conference, district and national levels. During his career, his teams have won nine conference championships and one national championship.

Making the latest victory even sweeter for Surridge and the Vikings (7-2) was taking the Rockford Holiday Tournament title. North Park players Laura Mount and Evie Peterson were named to the All-Tournament team, and Mount was named the tournament MVP.
