Flooding forced cancellation of classes at North Park University today with students relocated from low-lying dormitory rooms affected by flooding.
At least three residence halls were closed after losing power to the buildings because of flooding – the campus borders the north branch of the Chicago River.
Anderson and Burgh halls were closed Saturday and Sunday after power was lost – both halls were shuttered Saturday after the river began to cover electrical transformers that supply power to both halls. The accompanying photo, taken by Doug Nystrom, shows flooding in the lower level of Anderson Hall. To see more photos visit Campus Flooding.
A university switchboard operator said Sunday night that power was also out at Sohlberg Hall. Most students were relocated to Helwig Recreation Center or to the homes of friends and family.
More information will be posted to this Covenant news report later this morning as university officials complete an updated assessment of the situation.
