On November 15, church members walked through the neighborhood to collect food in place of having a morning sermon. “Our congregation walked instead of talked,” explains member Darcy King.
The church mailed postcards prior to the event so the neighbors would not be surprised when the visitors showed up at their doors. The church collected 1,100 pounds of food.
The church also held a three-week food drive in October and currently is collecting cereal, a common source of nutrition for people in poverty, but which is frequently absent from the food pantry shelves.
Since the church’s initial food drive, they have also started a Christmas drive to collect cereal.
One ‘Cool Cat’ Church Hopes Doesn’t Return
STILLWATER, MN – A cougar spotted in various locations around the Twin Cities the past several weeks apparently made his way across the property of Bethany Covenant Church recently.
Paw prints were spotted around the church. The prints, which were consistent with tracks elsewhere, were “very large” and measured more than five inches across, according to police reports. A state Department of Natural Resources conservation officer documented the tracks as up to four inches in diameter.
Despite the differences, officials believe there is just one cougar. Some of the tracks showed gaps of about seven to eight feet, where it appeared the animal had been running. Other tracks were three feet apart, where it appeared the animal had been walking, police said.
