Seminary Seeks New Dean of Academic Life

CHICAGO, IL (September 19, 2007) – Candidates are being sought for the position of dean of academic life at North Park Theological Seminary, reporting to the president and dean of the seminary.    
The dean of academic life, which is part of the president and dean’s cabinet, serves as the chief academic officer of the seminary. This position is charged with the care, assessment and development of the seminary faculty.

Areas of responsibility include curriculum, program assessment, assessment of student learning, scheduling, academic calendar, academic planning, academic budget, academic discipline, and oversight of select centers in the seminary. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the dean will teach up to two courses per year.

The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree (a Ph.D. or its equivalent in an area of the theological curriculum is preferred), have superior administrative skills, and be committed to enhancing the teaching and learning experience of both faculty and students. This individual will demonstrate expertise in theological educations preferably by serving as a faculty member or administrator at a seminary or graduate school of religion or their equivalent.

The candidate preferably will be licensed or ordained with significant experience in some field of ministry, be personally supportive of the theology and ethos of the Evangelical Covenant Church, be a contributing scholar to the theological enterprise, be a practicing Christian in thought, word, and behavior, and an active member of a Christian church. This individual also will be committed to a collaborative relationship with faculty colleagues, administrative colleagues, churchly colleagues and external constituencies, be committed to a diverse learning community and the enhancement of the educational experience of underrepresented persons, and be committed to working in concert with the entire North Park University academic community.
