On Sunday, the church re-dedicated its sanctuary, which also is used by Oakdale Christian Academy. The church-run school serves children from preschool through seventh grade.
Church leaders began discussions about replacing the carpet three years ago, says Pastor Darrell Griffin. “Then it went to ‘Let’s look at the pews because they need replacing.’ Then it went to ‘Let’s look at the lights’ because the lighting was poor.” That led to the idea of putting large screens at the front of the church and then ultimately to the entire renovation. As a result, the sanctuary was gutted to make way for the changes.
The prime consideration throughout the process has been how the sanctuary can impact the community, Griffin says.
