CHICAGO, IL (July 27, 2009) – High school students attending Evangelical Covenant churches will have several opportunities over the next year to work at ministry sites in Thailand.

The Department of World Mission is offering four trips (CWM) led by Covenant missionaries who work in the country. Depending on the trip, students will work on projects in the Mekong Valley or the Abundant Life Center in Bangkok.

The Covenant’s work in Thailand was highlighted during the recent CHIC 2009 youth conference, where students gave $109,327 to support mission projects in the country. Three high school students traveled to Thailand prior to CHIC and delivered live broadcasts to the gathering in Knoxville, Tennessee.

“The youth mission trips to Thailand are to allow groups an opportunity to ‘follow their offering’ to build relationships and invest their own time and energy to the mission,” says Karen Hallberg, director of mobilization and connection.

Space is limited on each of the trips, which are scheduled during Christmas as well as spring and summer next year:

Christmas in Thailand will run from December 26 through January 3, 2010. Cost is airfare plus $500 per person. The group will travel to Chiang Kong and Laos to work with missionaries Peter and Ruthie Dutton and the Mekong Valley Project. The trip has a maximum of 10 participants.

Spring Break in Thailand (Trip A) will run March 21-28, 2010. Cost is airfare plus $400 per person. Missionaries Karen and Carl Groot will work the youth at the Abundant Life Center. The trip has a maximum of five participants.

Spring Break in Thailand (Trip B) will run March 21-28, 2010. Cost is airfare plus $400 per person. Missionary Randy Bevis will lead a group to the Covenant camp in Roi Et to do a work project. The trip has a maximum of 25 participants.

Summer in Thailand will run June 20-June 30, 2010. Cost is airfare plus $500 per person. The Duttons will lead a work team at the Mekong Valley project. The trip has a maximum of 30 participants.

Not all participants have to be from the same youth group, Hallberg says. For more information, visit the CWM website or contact Hallberg by email or by calling 773-907-3318.
