EUGENE, OR (March 31, 2009) – Valley Covenant Church will host a web-based rebroadcast of a debate, pitting atheist Christopher Hitchens against Christian philosopher William Lane Craig, over the existence of God.

The rebroadcast will be offered at the church beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday. The actual debate will take place Saturday evening at Biola University.

Hitchens, the author of God Is Not Great and numerous magazine articles, is one of the most outspoken and prominent atheists in recent times. Craig has authored several books, including Reasonable Faith: Christian Truth and Apologetics. He has debated other claims of Christianity with people that have included Bart Ehrman and John Dominic Crossan.

The live debate Friday evening is sold out and will not be televised. Individuals or organizations may sign up by Wednesday to receive the webcast. Cost is $98.

The church will not charge attendees. “We would like this to be an opportunity for open and honest sharing of ideas and an airing of the best arguments and support for and against belief in God,” says Pastor Steve Bilynskyj. “Everyone is welcome, regardless of which ‘side’ you might be on.”

Although there is no charge, the church will accept donations. For more information or to RSVP, call the church at 541-345-0055.
