The addition doubles the size of the previous building and includes a kitchen, youth area, offices, classrooms and narthex. Construction has taken 15 months.
Worship began in the sanctuary November 18, but members moved to the new part of the building while singing songs of praise, says pastor Tim Anderson. Worshipers were divided into seven prayer groups, which moved to the various places throughout the church where ministry takes place.
Anderson says the church hopes to use the Family Life Center for community outreach. The congregation is developing a closer relationship with a nearby middle school and will offer an after-school program two days a week in the building. The program will include tutoring, as well as time for social and recreational events.
An elevator (accompanying photo) also was added to the building as part of the construction project. “It’s been needed and wanted for many years,” Anderson says. “It will really benefit our senior adults.”
