“Very good, except some of my students don’t have socks to wear, and I’m concerned with the cold weather starting,” Garnett replied.
Pedersen responded, “I’ll make an announcement during worship and ask people to bring socks for kids from grades K-5. We’ll call it ‘Socks for Sheridan’ (Elementary School).”
The next Sunday, church members who attended the service brought 254 pairs of socks, enough for every class. “Imagine what we would have had if the 8:30 a.m. service had been given the opportunity and heard of the need!” Pedersen says.
The principal and the teachers emailed the church to express their appreciation. “I looked at it this way,” says Pedersen. “Here was a small way to be missional. It was like Jesus saying – if he came from Wisconsin – “My feet were cold and you gave me socks.”
