BANGKOK, THAILAND (October 16, 2007) – The largest-ever number of Evangelical Covenant Church leaders and youth are participating in the fifth annual Asia Covenant Churches Consultation, which began Tuesday and runs through Friday.

PrayerThe 130 participants are from Thailand, Taiwan, Laos, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Denmark, Japan, and the United States. They are focusing on the theme, “Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders.”

Although there is tremendous diversity in culture, language, and ecclesiology among the Asia Covenant Churches, developing leaders for the future is considered a core issue. The gathering gives the opportunity for Covenanters to connect with each other and pray together (accompanying photo).

Attendees say the conference already is having a positive impact. One pastor said his ministry will improve because of the message entitled “Jesus Developed Leaders,” given by Curt Peterson, executive minister of the Department of World Mission.

“I have heard many talks on leadership development, but today’s message gave me a fresh new perspective on developing young leaders,” said pastor Julian Peji from the Jesus Covenant Church in the Philippines.
