Covenant Pastor Killed in Car Crash

LA VILLA, TX (October 9, 2007) – J. Armando Machado, pastor of Iglesia Evangelica Misionera, a South Texas Covenant church, died Saturday in a single-vehicle accident when his car plunged into the Rio Grande River.

Machado, 45, had been returning from Reynosa, Mexico, which is just south of the Texas border, when the accident occurred. He was the only person in the vehicle. The cause of the accident remains unknown.

Machado, who was born in Reynosa, had been pastor of Iglesia Evangelica Misionera since 2003 and transferred his ordination to the Evangelical Covenant Church in 2006. He was a physician before entering the ministry.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday in Reynosa with burial there on Monday. A memorial service will be conducted in La Villa, but no date has been set.

Survivors include his wife, Araceli, and two sons, Eder and Jose Armando.
