Candidates Sought for Presidency of CHET

LOS ANGELES, CA (December 2, 2006) – Candidates are being sought for the position as president of Centro Hispano de Estudios Teológicos (CHET).
President Jorge Maldonado, after a distinguished career at the head of the organization, is moving towards retirement, prompting the Board of Directors to begin a search process to identify a successor and assure a smooth transition, Covenant News Service was told. Maldonado will continue as acting president during this transition period.
The president serves as the chief executive officer of CHET, responsible for day-to-day operations of the institution.

The successful candidate will have a solid theological formation – a Ph.D. is desired – and experience in leadership formation in the Latino/a community. CHET is an institution of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), dedicated to developing pastors and church leaders for Latino/a Christian churches and ministries.

This individual must have a faith and lifestyle congruent with the ECC ethos as expressed in Covenant Affirmations and other statements and standards of the denomination. He/she must also demonstrate commitments to the vision and mission of CHET, theological education in the service of the local and global church, the evangelical heritage of both ECC and CHET, and ministry in the Latino/a community and the ability to network within the Latino/a Christian community.

Professional qualifications include a Ph.D. in Theology or some cognate field (desired), a solid theological formation, experience and active interest in leadership formation in the Latino/a community, and good management skills. The individual must be scholarly minded, particularly in the area of leadership formation, and reflect a solid Christian character. The ability to work with students that have varied educational levels is required, as is the ability to fully communicate (speaking, writing, reading) in both Spanish and English.

Desired leadership characteristics include demonstrated institutional and/or administrative leadership, the capacity to generate a vision for CHET, the ability to develop new funding sources, experience in interacting with theological/academic networks, and the ability to represent CHET in various venues, including recruitment of potential students.
