CHICAGO, IL (November 7, 2006) – The North Park University men’s soccer team has earned an at-large bid for the 33rd Annual NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament.

The team, currently ranked 13th nationally, will take on the Wartburg College Knights in the first round at approximately 1:30 p.m. CST on Saturday. The match will be hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota.

It is the second straight year that the Vikings, who were 6-0-1 and 14-2-2 in the regular season, have made the national tournament. The team fell in the first round of the tournament last year in a close and heartbreaking loss to Macalester.

Although the Vikings dominated the CCIW this year, Augustana upset North Park 1-0 in the opening round of the conference championship match last Friday. The team had to wait over the weekend to learn its fate for the national tournament.

“Our team has been preparing for this since the off-season,” said Head Coach John Born. “We were disappointed that we did not win the conference tournament. Waiting for the announcement of the bid made for a very long Sunday.”

Viking fans in the Chicago area are encouraged to come to the Helwig Recreation Center to watch a live feed of the game. Those unable to make it to the campus can watch the game live via the North Park University website. To view the tournament brackets, visit NCAA Sports.

If the Vikings win on Saturday, they will play again on Sunday at a time to be announced.
