CHICAGO, IL (October 20, 2006) – Good Morning America will film a visit by Jim Wallis to the North Park University campus on Wednesday for an upcoming series on “The Evangelical Vote.”

Wallis will meet with student leaders for a roundtable discussion, and then he will speak during the university’s weekly chapel service at 10:30 a.m. in the Anderson Chapel. The chapel service is free and open to the public.

Wallis is president and executive director of Sojourners/Call to Renewal and is the author of numerous books, including last year’s New York Times bestseller, God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It. His columns have been featured in major daily newspapers and he appears regularly on news talk programs, such as Meet the Press, Hardball, The O’Reilly Factor, and on National Public Radio.

Most recently, he helped gather leaders across the evangelical spectrum, including Evangelical Covenant Church President Glenn Palmberg and Ted Haggard, president of the National Association of Evangelicals, to call for an immediate conference with President Bush to discuss the continuing tragedy in Darfur, Sudan. To read more about that call for a meeting with the President, please see Sudan and the U.S.

Sojourners/Call to Renewal Press Secretary Jack Pinnell recommended North Park as an appropriate site for filming due to its position as a “center of thought” for Christians and their engagement in politics.

Wallis is a familiar face on the North Park campus. He brought his “Faith, Politics and Society” course to the university in 2001 as an intensive one-week study. In 2004 he helped bring the “Let Justice Roll: Faith and Community Voices Against Poverty” initiative to North Park and the greater Chicago area. Several university graduates also have interned with his organization.
