Memorial Service Sunday for Doris (Oman) Janson

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (August 10, 2006) – A memorial service for Doris (Oman) Janson, 90, wife of former Northwest Conference Supt. Carl Janson, will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Evangelical Covenant Church. A meal will follow.

Janson died Wednesday. She had been living at the Covenant Village of the Great Lakes.

She was born April 12, 1916, in Willmar, Minnesota. She married Carl Janson in June 1945. He served as superintendent from 1967 to 1981. She attended North Park Junior College and then earned a degree from the  University of Minnesota. She later taught at North  Park Junior College.

Officiating at the memorial service will be Pastors Craig Swanson, Steve Armfield, John Larson, and Stan Henderson. A private burial service will be conducted at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.

Visitation will be observed from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, Alt & Shawmut Hills Chapel, in Grand Rapids. More of her life story will be posted Friday on the funeral home’s life story website at Life Story.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Sharon Johnson of Lombard, Illinois, and Nancy Tournell, of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
