CHICAGO, IL (June 28, 2006) – Hardly a week goes by that we do not receive a few comments from readers on stories published as part of the Covenant online news report.
We will share from time to time some of those responses generated through the “comments” link attached to each published story. This kind of feedback is very helpful to our Covenant News Service staff as we seek to identify and publish stories of great interest to a broad spectrum of online readers of this report.
Following are comments relating to recently published stories, edited in some cases for length. To read a particular story of interest, click on the headline.
New DVD Takes Fun Look at CHIC History
Bonnie Siems of Plato Center, IL, writes: I’m in my 60’s . . . going to CHIC for my first time, because our pastor said I could go and help as a staff person. I am so EXCITED! The video helped me to see the wonderful way to serve young people with and for the LORD. Thanks.
Tim Norris of Bennet, NE, writes: This was great! I have been to CHIC four times and this brought back many memories. I would love to get a CD of the best of CHIC Mainstage or worship sometime.
Marti Burger of Chicago, IL, writes: This looks great! Thank you!
Swedish Musical Tells Story of Immigration
Ronald Newlin of Barkhamsted, CT, writes: Thanks for this bit of information. I would love to see this musical, but cannot attend any of the performances listed. Is there a chance that the group has produced a CD or has any literature?
(Editor’s note: The group will put on a concert, but not the play production, at 7 p.m. on July 5 at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. Although there is no charge (freewill offering only), it is suggested that reservations be made by calling 612-871-4907. Interested individuals may make email contact at one of the following: bjurtjarn_teater@yahoo.com or b_haglund@swipnet.se. The website for the group may be found by visiting Bjurtjarn Theatre Group.)
Nancy Sawyer Doing Well Following Hospitalization
Art Greco of Novato, CA, writes: That’s one of the funniest comments I’ve heard in a long time. Thanks for the information, communications staff, and the deep laugh, Nancy. I pray for and appreciate you both.
Annual Meeting Stories to Remain Available
Sheldon Peterson of St. Petersburg, FL, writes: To the Communications staff: THANKS! As a life-long Covenanter, I am so thrilled to go to this website at least once each day and be “up-to-date” on Covie news. And the Annual Meeting coverage is the best. I remember my conversation with Don Meyer in the early days of his tenure, when he said that in a year or two, the Annual Meetings will be Internet broadcast. Now we just about take it for granted. Blessings on you all. We know via communication that we can do much more for the Kingdom together than we ever could individually.
Adria Pearson of Orange, MA, writes: Could you put a link on the Annual Meeting page for the resolutions passed at the meeting? Thanks!
(Editor’s note: the resolutions have been added and may be found by visiting 2006 Annual Meeting Resolutions.)
Iowa Pastor Receives Governor’s Award
Pam Darsie of Cambridge, MN, writes: Way to go pastor!
NPU Tuition Grants Benefit Students, Camps
Marian Johnson of Golden Valley, MN, writes: This was fantastic thinking. For so many years kids had to have jobs that paid if they were to keep up with school. That was not at camp. I met some of those great kids last summer and am happy to hear that some of the same are returning to our camps this summer. I hope you can keep on encouraging our young people in this way. PS: I’m still looking for something more than the pictures of the commissioning of career/project/short-term missionaries (in coverage of the 121st Annual Meeting). We need to know who they are and where they will be serving – and in what capacity. It might even help to support them if you word it right? The global picture was so evident in so much of the planning for the Annual Meeting. Let’s give some recognition to those who are answering the call to serve outside our borders, too.
Delegate Summary, Financial Reports Available Online
Linda Forbes of Chicago, IL, writes: Thank you! Thank you! What great coverage! I have a real sense of this meeting from the news articles and terrific pictures you have posted. I so very much appreciate all of your hard work to keep us all informed – something that is especially important to those of us who were not able to attend. Blessings to you all. I know how much work this is and how tired you all must be!
Marisol Medina of Cicero, IL, writes: I applaud the Covenant Church for approving the Resolution on Immigration presented at the Annual Meeting. How a person came to this country should not be our major focus. The fact is that he/she is here and needs to experience God’s compassion, justice and mercy through his kingdom people, regardless of our earthly, personal political views.
Walter Contreras of Montclair, CA, writes: Someone once said, “A picture paints a thousand words.” The Covenant has done the right thing in approving this resolution. It is not perfect, but it gives us a better picture than no picture it all. Thank you Covenantors. We don’t have to stand alone on this issue.

Chaplain Receives Commendation Medal for Valor
Ch CPT) Tim Kersten of Ft. Riley, KS, writes: Excellently reported and a great picture. Please note that Chaplain Assistants (combatants) accompany chaplains (non-combatants) for security purposes as well as for other duties in assisting their chaplain. Chaplains and chaplain assistants reading this article already track on this, but some others may not. It was a good note to add that Basile was present for this duty as well. Thanks and God bless.
Friends Use Website to Eulogize Antwan Williams
Emily Gaffey of Glen Ellyn, IL, writes: Antwan was amazing. I loved going to camp because of him. What a great influence on the guys he had in his cabin at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp. Wow, he sure did leave a great legacy. An AMAZING person that God probably really wanted back in heaven.
