CHICAGO, IL (June 26, 2006) – A new DVD that takes a fun look at the history of CHIC has been released and is now available for online viewing on the Evangelical Covenant Church website, just in time for young people preparing to head to Tennessee for this year’s CHIC extravaganza “No Ordinary Day.”

The DVD was first aired during the recently completed 121st Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan, featuring the recollections of three well-known Covenanters who have played significant roles in the development of CHIC over the years.

Chuck Anderson, who drew many laughs in recalling his introduction to “California girls” as a midwestern teenager, was a participant in the very first CHIC experience 50 years ago. Others recalling significant milestones in CHIC’s evolution over the years are Bob Stromberg and Rick Carlson – both share video clips of antics from early productions that are sure to draw a chuckle.

The new video is available in three bandwidth versions – high, medium, and low – to accommodate a range of Internet access connections. Links beginning with the characters “http://” are designed to play in the browser. Links beginning with “rtsp://” are designed to play in QuickTime Player. Organizers of this year’s CHIC event in Knoxville, Tennessee, say plans are well in place for this triennial gathering that will again draw thousands of young people to the campus of the University of Tennessee campus July 16-21.

“Where will your student be on an ordinary day after attending CHIC in 2006?” asks promotional material for CHIC located on the Covenant website? “How will this call to a generation of students to invite Christ into their lives, to become like Christ, and to serve Christ, change their lives?”

The onsite answer is that “on an ordinary day, maybe she will decide to become a pastor, or he will start a new youth group. On an ordinary day, maybe he will bring the gospel to another country, or she will show love in a run-down urban neighborhood. There is nothing ordinary about discipleship – nothing ordinary about the opportunity to go deeper in relationships with others and with God at CHIC.”

This year marks the 50th anniversary of CHIC, an event where “the values of the Covenant are lived out more vibrantly than in any other setting,” according to President Glenn Palmberg. “Through powerful worship, deep discussions, life-changing seminars and wild excursions, students from many different backgrounds come together to see and hear God in a new way.”

“Whether CHIC provides the first step of faith or helps to pave the way toward the next significant leap in their discipleship journey, the day that students leave CHIC will be no ordinary day,” say CHIC counselors. “Neither will the days that follow . . .”
