CHICAGO, IL (May 23, 2006) – North Park University students Kari Anderson and Annika Safstrom were named National Scholar Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

The award is given to varsity rowers in at least their second year of eligibility who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above and have competed in a varsity boat for at least 75 percent of the spring season.

Both Anderson and Safstrom are members of the team’s varsity eight-person crew. Both were also members of the varsity four-person crew that won the bronze medal at the May 12 Dad Vail National Regatta.

This is the first year that Anderson was eligible for the award, and it is the second year in a row that Safstrom has been recognized.

Since the team’s first year as a varsity sport three years ago, six team members have been recognized by the CRCA as National Scholar Athletes.
