Kirsten Bell, CHIC events coordinator, announced that The Afters, GRITS, and Salvador will perform at the national event of the Evangelical Covenant Church to be held July 16-21 on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
Organizers also remind individuals and churches that the regular registration deadline is May 8. For more information, please see No Ordinary Day.
The two-man band Lost and Found has kept previous CHIC attendees laughing while encouraging people to think more deeply about their faith, Bell notes. In an interview with Youth Specialties, the band referred to its sound as “speedwood,” described as “a heavy metal style played on acoustic instruments.”
The Afters are a new band best known for their song “Beautiful Love,” the theme song for MTV’s hit show 8th and Ocean. They have toured with Mercy Me and are appearing at a number of Christian festivals and colleges on their current tour.
GRITS has scored 10 number one Christian hip-hop singles. The group has received a Billboard Video Award, four Dove Awards (Christian equivalent of the Grammy Awards), and their album Dichotomy B was nominated for Best Rock Gospel Album at this year’s Grammy Awards.
The group’s songs have been featured on MTV Cribs, The Real World, Pimp My Ride, Made, Boston Public, and Kevin Hill, as well as such feature films as Something’s Gotta Give, The Perfect Man, and Big Momma’s House 2.
Salvador performed at CHIC 2000 and its Latin music has crossed ethnic lines, making it one of the most popular bands in Christian music. Bell says the audience should “expect a huge Latin dance party with a few thousand of your closest friends.”
