Covenanter Honored with Voice of Courage Award

DETROIT, MI (November 2, 2005) – Donna E. Scott of Hope Community Church recently received the 2005 Voice of Courage Award for her work in child abuse prevention.

The award is given by Darkness to Light, which has trained more than 6,200 adults in child sexual abuse prevention since 2004. Others nominated for the award include Ellen DeGeneres, Andrew Greely and John Irving. John Walsh and TIME are past honorees.

For the past 13 years, Scott has been an advocate to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence and other injustices. She has spoken nationally and has been featured on national and local television and radio shows, in newspapers and magazines and featured in syndicated columns.

“I have a passion to see faith communities practice healthy sexuality,” says Scott. She recently authored the book Today I Told Somebody: Meditations for Abuse Survivors. It is due out in December. Her previous book is Hired Hand, A Case of Clergy Abuse.
