COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (December 19, 2001)  – Krissy Wendell of Redeemer Covenant Church in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, is among 20 national women’s hockey team players who will represent the United States in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, February 8-24.

Coach Ben Smith announced the official team roster on Monday. Wendell’s selection was anticipated by many given her performance as the team’s top scoring contributor during last year’s regular season.

Wendell led the U.S. national team in assists with 16 during a pre-Olympic tour that ended last weekend. The squad finished the Visa Skate to Salt Lake Tour with a record of 21-0-0 after sweeping the Swedish team in four contests. Wendell and her teammates will take a break over Christmas before heading to Lake Placid, New York, December 29-31 for a tournament at the Olympic Center.

The U.S. Olympic women’s hockey team won the inaugural gold medal in Nagano, Japan, beating Canada 3-1 in the finals in 1998. The U.S. and Canada will play three games in early January as a warm-up to the Olympics, opening the series at Chicago’s United Center on January 5.

Following the Olympics, Wendell will attend the University of Minnesota in the fall where she will play hockey.
