CHICAGO, IL (December 19, 2001)  – Brett Quayle scored 25 points – 20 in the first half – as Albion College of Michigan defeated North Park University (NPU) 82-71 in a non-league game Tuesday night.

Quayle made 7-of-8 field goal tries and Albion (6-2) made 16-of-24 shots in taking a 45-33 lead at half-time. The visitors kept the Vikings (4-4) at bay from there, making 12-of-21 attempts from the 3-point line.

North Park was led offensively by freshman Maurice Vaughn, who had 19 points, and senior Jason Collins, who added 14. Vaughn scored 14 points in the first half and his three point basket tied the game at 28-28 with 5:11 left before intermission. Albion scored the next 10 points, however, and the Vikings couldn’t decrease their deficit to less than 10 points after half-time.

Freshman Joel Youngberg was the only other North Park player scoring in double figures, tallying all 10 of his points in the final 3:28 of the contest. Vaughn led the Vikings with five rebounds.

Last Saturday, Collins and Sneed Deaderick scored 17 points apiece and NPU shot 52 percent from the field to whip Dominican University 94-63 in a non-league contest in nearby River Forest.

The Vikings took a 52-28 lead at half-time in beating the Stars for the second time this year.

Collins made 5-of-7 shots from the 3-point line and Deaderick added five assists to lead a balanced scoring attack that saw 14 Vikings tally at least one point. Vaughn and Aaron Coleman had 13 points apiece as NPU racked up its most lopsided victory of the season.

The Vikings to Milwaukee School of Engineering Friday for a 7 p.m. game. The team then takes its Christmas break and doesn’t play again until a January 7 home contest against Judson College.
