PITTSBURGH, PA (December 14, 2001)  – Krissy Wendell of Redeemer Covenant Church in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, assisted on two goals as the U.S. national women’s hockey team beat Sweden 9-1 at the Mellon Center in Pittsburgh.

Wendell tallied a goal and had two assists two days earlier as her team beat Sweden 11-1 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The U.S. team plays Sweden in New Haven, Connecticut, Saturday with hopes of extending its 12-match winning streak on the Visa Skate to Salt Lake Tour. The team is 19-0-0 overall.

The U.S. national team will be trimmed to 20 players Monday as it readies for the 2002 Winter Olympics women’s hockey tournament February 8-24 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Wendell, the top scorer for the team during last year’s regular season, is likely to make the team as a forward. After the Olympics, she will attend the University of Minnesota in the fall where she will play hockey.
