year.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>We celebrated, not only her time here in Cameroon,\u00a0but also\u00a0the years of ministry in Hong Kong and in Congo by making a visit to a local\u00a0Asian restaurant.\u00a0\u00a0 One of the items we shared that night were Spring Rolls made with rice wrappers.\u00a0 As Mavis explained rice wrappers were not common in Hong Kong or many areas of China but they\u00a0are typical of Vietnamese cuisine.\u00a0 This made sense as the owner of the restaraunt\u00a0came from Vietnam as a refugee.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_454\" id=\"caption-attachment-454\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The rice wrappers for Vietnamese Spring Rolls<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>I was reminded that I had\u00a0tried my hand at using rice wrappers myself.\u00a0 They are available in Cameroon in a number of different stores but I had to go to the internet to find out how to use them.\u00a0\u00a0 First they are moistened in water and then put on a damp towel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_456\" style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><strong><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2011\/06\/moistening-rice-wrapper-comp.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-456\" class=\"size-full wp-image-456\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2011\/06\/moistening-rice-wrapper-comp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/jcstoker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2011\/06\/moistening-rice-wrapper-comp.jpg 448w, id=\"caption-attachment-456\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The thin rice wrapper after being dipped in warm water so that it becomes pliable.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>The fillings are traditionally thinly shredded vegetables but can also include cooked meat of some sort.\u00a0 The spicing varies from relatively bland to quite hot depending on the quantities of ginger and hot peppers used.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_457\" style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><strong><a the restaurant that night, however they can also be fried after chilling them.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<div id=\"attachment_461\" style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption \/><\/a><\/strong><p id=\"caption-attachment-461\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Looking good!<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><strong>Frying produces a crunchy covering but mine at least did not look near as nice after frying.\u00a0 However the taste was still wonderful especially when served with some fried rice.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<div id=\"attachment_462\"
