Last week\u00a0Jeff and I were in Pismo\u00a0Beach for a retreat\u00a0and as we walked on the beach I found some sand dollars.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

I have always like looking for shells on the beach and these are so beautiful.\u00a0 For the first time that I remember, I found one still alive.\u00a0 They are covered in velvety violet spikes which move to allow the sand dollars to move across the sand.\u00a0 No picture of this one as I threw it back in the water.<\/span><\/h4>\n

However I did find this poem, which is the Legend of the Sand Dollar which\u00a0I had seen previously.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Legend of the Sand Dollar<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

There\u2019s a lovely little legend
\nThat I would like to tell, Of the birth and death of Jesus
\nFound in this lowly shell.<\/p>\n

If you examine closely
\nYou\u2019ll see that you find here,
\nFour nail holes and a fifth one
\nMade by a Roman\u2019s spear.<\/p>\n

On one side the Easter Lily,
\nIts center is the star, That appeared unto the shepherds
\nAnd led them from afar.<\/p>\n

The Christmas Poinsettia
\nEtched on the other side,
\nReminds us of His birthday
\nOur happy Christmastide.<\/p>\n

Now break the center open
\nAnd here you will release,
\nThe five white doves awaiting
\nTo spread Good Will and Peace.<\/p>\n

This simple little symbol
\nChrist left for you and me,
\nTo help us spread His Gospel
\nThrough all Eternity.<\/p>\n
