a learning experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As many of you know we own a home in CA that we rent while we are overseas.\u00a0 Due to having great tenants (who were willing to live with a bit of construction) we replaced the countertops during our time in Cameroon.\u00a0 However the backsplash was not repaired after the old tile was taken off.\u00a0 So a kitchen spruce up was in order on our return.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1084\" style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2012\/09\/Kitchen-needing-work2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1084\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1084\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2012\/09\/Kitchen-needing-work2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/jcstoker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2012\/09\/Kitchen-needing-work2.jpg 448w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/jcstoker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2012\/09\/Kitchen-needing-work2-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1084\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is the kitchen as we moved in.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I was told this was a simple project &#8211; and I guess it was but I had a number of new skills to learn.\u00a0 First there is the choice of the mosaic tile material.\u00a0 We, of course, did not choose nice square tiles, we choose long skinny tiles which are offset from each other.\u00a0 They were big enough that the &#8220;snippers&#8221; couldn&#8217;t cut them on the ends and after ten minutes on each of the first two little glass pieces it was obvious it would take days to cut them all for the edges using a hacksaw.\u00a0 So\u00a0I bought a tile saw &#8211; and learned to use it!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1085\" style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2012\/09\/tile-saw.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1085\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1085\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2012\/09\/tile-saw.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/jcstoker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2012\/09\/tile-saw.jpg 448w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/jcstoker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2012\/09\/tile-saw-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1085\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The needed tile saw - it became my friend.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Note to other would be tilers &#8211;
