Watched this video of Al Tizon, the Executive Director of Serve Globally, the amazing organization that we work with. I don’t think about classism enough. I hope I’ll be more aware of the ways we are or are not interacting with people in different “classes”. Are our meetup groups only catering to people from one class? Are they accessible to all? Do they promote equality or reenforce the categories that society puts on people? As Dr. Tizon asks, “Are we systemically classist? Are Western missionaries systematically classist?” He asks great questions and if you want to be challenged where you are, I’d recommend watching part or all of it. His talk begins at about 8:10 minutes.
