{"id":351,"date":"2009-10-15T08:23:38","date_gmt":"2009-10-15T13:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/?p=351"},"modified":"2009-10-15T08:23:38","modified_gmt":"2009-10-15T13:23:38","slug":"using-che-principles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/2009\/10\/using-che-principles\/","title":{"rendered":"Using CHE principles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The week before going to Sudan Cindy and I attended a 5 day Training of Trainers for Community Health Evangelism.\u00a0 We learned some excellent principles which we were able to incorporate into our presentations in Sudan.\u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-352\" title=\"large-group\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2009\/10\/large-group-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"large-group\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We used the River Crossing lesson to communicate the differences between relief and development.\u00a0 This is really key for them to understand at this time because for so many years everything in Sudan has been in a relief mode.\u00a0 That is normal given the ugly history of many years of civil war, of people fleeing to Ethiopia for refuge and then only returning during the last several years.\u00a0 This living in relief <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-353\" title=\"men-in-small-group\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2009\/10\/men-in-small-group-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"men-in-small-group\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>mode is also predicated by the preponderance of NGOs and UN groups everywhere.\u00a0 Truly there has been much relief that needed to be provided.\u00a0 But now we need to move into the development mode of relationship.<\/p>\n<p>The river crossing role play went well.\u00a0 Curt has a hilarious video me doing it with them.\u00a0 Then we broke up into small groups, something that I think was new for everyone.\u00a0 We had women in separate groups so they would not feel intimidated.\u00a0 We gave them simple questions to work on:\u00a0 what was relief and development in the skit?\u00a0 Where have you seen that in your community?\u00a0 They went right at it and were really animated.\u00a0 We had to have someone help the women write their answers on the poster paper.\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-354\" title=\"womens-small-groups\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2009\/10\/womens-small-groups-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"womens-small-groups\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Overall we were pleased with how they grasped things and with their answers.\u00a0 The women actually did the best.\u00a0 One of the 3 men&#8217;s groups spiritualized the answer to every question, not quite what we were looking for.\u00a0 As we wrapped it up we were able to point out that relief is when you are carrying someone who needs help, but you can&#8217;t keep doing that forever.\u00a0 You need to move into the development mode in which you demonstrate how to do things and then the person takes it up on their own.\u00a0 You can tell when development has really caught on when the person passes on what they learned to someone else.\u00a0 We did this early in our meetings and then over the next 5 days were able to make numerous references back to what we had seen and learned together.\u00a0 Thanks Lord for the timely training from CHE.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-report-this\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand?moderation_action=report_form&object_type=post&object_id=351&width=250&height=300\" class=\"thickbox\" title=\"Report This Post\">Report This Post<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The week before going to Sudan Cindy and I attended a 5 day Training of Trainers for Community Health Evangelism.\u00a0 We learned some excellent principles which we were able to incorporate into our presentations in Sudan.\u00a0\u00a0 We used the River Crossing lesson to communicate the differences between relief and development.\u00a0 This is really key for [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":14,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[15,13],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-351","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","category-world-mission-events-trips"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
