{"id":2592,"date":"2014-10-16T17:03:13","date_gmt":"2014-10-16T22:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/?p=2592"},"modified":"2014-10-16T17:03:13","modified_gmt":"2014-10-16T22:03:13","slug":"take-courage-in-your-faith","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/2014\/10\/take-courage-in-your-faith\/","title":{"rendered":"Take Courage in Your Faith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201c<em>Let\u2019s be courageous in our faith.\u00a0 Women let\u2019s be strong because there is a reward,<\/em>\u201d says the song that Lisia Weka, the new CEUM Women\u2019s President, taught the women in the Bodokola church region.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2597\" style=\"width: 293px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/10\/Mama-Weka-teaching-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2597\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2597\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/10\/Mama-Weka-teaching-2.jpg\" alt=\"Mama Weka teaching song\" width=\"283\" height=\"258\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mama Weka teaching song<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Bodokola was the first of four stops on this her first trip since being selected to head Women Ministries.\u00a0 Singing a song and dancing was an excellent way to learn and remember her message and in so doing encourage the women and share her vision. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/10\/Mama-Weka-dancing-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2596\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/10\/Mama-Weka-dancing-2.jpg\" alt=\"Mama Weka dancing (2)\" width=\"287\" height=\"258\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking from Hebrews 10:35-36, she used three life examples of working in your garden, marriage and pregnancy explaining that in each context there will be hard work, sometimes pain and even persecution.\u00a0 \u201c<em>We need to persevere, be patient and strong and courageous in our faith.\u00a0 We can\u2019t put our confidence in people as they will always disappoint us.\u00a0 Our confidence needs to be in God.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0 She challenged each woman with these questions: \u201c<em>Who are you trusting in?\u00a0 Are you looking for the will of God in your life?<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Next the team traveled to the Olosan church region.\u00a0 After President Weka preached, Superintendent Rev. Yangana shared that the Holy Spirit has shown you that many of us have grown cold in our faith.\u00a0 We are not serving God.\u00a0 We needed your message of encouragement.\u00a0 87 women stood up to recommit themselves to follow Christ.<\/p>\n<p>The team also visited the Karawa and Banga Kungu church regions where women were challenged to stand firm in their faith.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte Dzumbu, the Coordinator of Widows and Orphans ministry, spoke to the church about their responsibility for caring for widows and orphans and encouraged them to start associations for widows.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2600\" style=\"width: 277px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/10\/Mama-Charlotte-speaking-2-320x200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2600\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2600\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/10\/Mama-Charlotte-speaking-2-320x200.jpg\" alt=\"Mama Charlotte speaking\" width=\"267\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2600\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mama Charlotte speaking<\/p><\/div>\n<p>These associations build a community of worth, value and serving together which encourages the widows spiritually and physically.\u00a0 In regions she had already visited and gotten to know widows and associations started you could see how the widows loved her and were excited to see her.\u00a0 When they saw her in the truck they started waving and calling out to her.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte explained to me that in some areas 30-40% of the women are widows.\u00a0 I was amazed at this number of widows and asked why.\u00a0 She said because of men getting killed in the war or side effects of the war years, especially illness.<\/p>\n<p>Kagu Toze encouraged women and girls to learn to read and write.\u00a0 She is the Coordinator for Women\u2019s Literacy.\u00a0 She encouraged parents that even if they can\u2019t afford school fees for their daughters to attend school, enroll them in a reading class. \u00a0The only cost is to give a little help to the teacher.\u00a0 In some regions the majority of women could not read well enough to read the Bible.\u00a0 Thanks to help from Cindy\u2019s Special Interest Missionary gift this year we were able to print more reading books for the Literacy classes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2602\" style=\"width: 232px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/10\/Womens-leaders-320x2001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2602\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2602\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/10\/Womens-leaders-320x2001.jpg\" alt=\"Cindy, Mama Weka, Pastor Marie, Mama Charlotte and Mama Kagu\" width=\"222\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2602\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cindy, Mama Weka, Pastor Marie, Mama Charlotte and Mama Kagu<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Cindy taught basic Nutrition using the 3 x 3 model which is eating food from 3 basic food groups 3 times a day.\u00a0 This is especially important for children.\u00a0 Most adults eat only something small with their morning coffee and then one meal in the afternoon.\u00a0 Since most people eat what grows in their garden she linked the importance of growing food from the 3 food groups in their garden.\u00a0 Malnutrition is a big problem and women were excited to learn and start applying this in their families.<\/p>\n<p><a
