Today, on January 1, the first Scripture I read in my (brand new, bilingual!) Bible for the year was 1 Samuel chapters 1 and 2. I found it very fitting for a New Year’s Day meditation as most of the world comes up with their resolutions for 2016.<\/p>\n

Hannah\u2019s Prayer
\n1 Then Hannah prayed and said:
\n\u201cMy heart rejoices in the Lord;
\nin the Lord my horn is lifted high.
\nMy mouth boasts over my enemies,
\nfor I delight in your deliverance.
\n2 \u201cThere is no one holy like the Lord;
\nthere is no one besides you;
\nthere is no Rock like our God.
\n3 \u201cDo not keep talking so proudly
\nor let your mouth speak such arrogance,
\nfor the Lord is a God who knows,
\nand by him deeds are weighed.
\n4 \u201cThe bows of the warriors are broken,
\nbut those who stumbled are armed with strength.
\n5 Those who were full hire themselves out for food,
\nbut those who were hungry are hungry no more.
\nShe who was barren has borne seven children,
\nbut she who has had many sons pines away.
\n6 \u201cThe Lord brings death and makes alive;
\nhe brings down to the grave and raises up.
\n7 The Lord sends poverty and wealth;
\nhe humbles and he exalts.
\n8 He raises the poor from the dust
\nand lifts the needy from the ash heap;
\nhe seats them with princes
\nand has them inherit a throne of honor.
\n\u201cFor the foundations of the earth are the Lord\u2019s;
\non them he has set the world.
\n9 He will guard the feet of his faithful servants,
\nbut the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness.
\n\u201cIt is not by strength that one prevails;
\n10 those who oppose the Lord will be broken.
\nThe Most High will thunder from heaven;
\nthe Lord will judge the ends of the earth.
\n\u201cHe will give strength to his king
\nand exalt the horn of his anointed.\u201d<\/p>\n

I was reminded that as much as we may make plans for our lives, ultimately God is in control, and He is our hope and strength. I find comfort in knowing who holds my future, and pray that you feel the same way in this new year.<\/p>\n
