{"id":815,"date":"2011-02-21T23:06:35","date_gmt":"2011-02-22T03:06:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/delp\/?p=815"},"modified":"2011-02-21T23:12:37","modified_gmt":"2011-02-22T03:12:37","slug":"our-time-in-the-south","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/delp\/?p=815","title":{"rendered":"Our Time in the &#8216;South&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Simeon and I (Kim) recently spent a few days in South Quito with Simeon&#8217;s babysitter (Martita) and her family.\u00a0 I must admit, I was a little nervous about it.\u00a0 The whole goal was to be immersed in Spanish all the time to help increase my knowledge and especially speaking Spanish.\u00a0 It was a little nerve-racking thinking of speaking and understanding Spanish 24 hours a day.\u00a0 I defintely did better than what I thought I would.\u00a0 I understood a great deal and thanks to my dictionary, I was able to speak pretty well also.\u00a0 We learned a lot about culture and everyday life for Ecuadorians in Quito.\u00a0 The whole family loved Simeon and Martita&#8217;s 2 daughters would hurry home from school to spend time with Simeon and to ask me LOTS of questions!\u00a0 It was so much fun!<\/p>\n<p>We had some interesting experiences while there.\u00a0 Hireq, one of our dogs, got sick the first day we were there so we had to take her to the vet.\u00a0 Additionally, Simeon got sick the 3rd day we were there.\u00a0 It was his first time being sick with a fever and vomiting.\u00a0\u00a0It ended up that Joel came back early from Santo Domingo so that we could take Simeon back to the north of Quito to our pediatrician.\u00a0 She told us he had a throat infection and he has been on antibiotics.\u00a0 Today, Monday, is the first day he is feeling more like himself.\u00a0 We are thankful for God&#8217;s healing.\u00a0 It was hard on me as a mom to see him sick.\u00a0 Even being a nurse practitioner, I wasn&#8217;t thinking as a nurse practitioner, I was thinking as a mom.\u00a0 Joel had to remind me when I was thinking we needed to take Simeon to the doctor like &#8220;RIGHT NOW&#8221;, he said &#8220;what would you do if your friend brought their son to you with this problem&#8221;?\u00a0 I thought about it and remembered, all kids have fevers.\u00a0 It was an interesting contrast for me to try and balance.<\/p>\n<p>I am grateful for this experience.\u00a0 It forced me to use my Spanish more than I have, because I had to!\u00a0 This was good for me to realize I know more than I think I do.\u00a0 I praise God for safety for Simeon and I and for Martita and her family for opening their home and their lives to us.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_816\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2011\/02\/Simeon-and-piano.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-816\" class=\"size-full wp-image-816\" title=\"Simeon and piano\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2011\/02\/Simeon-and-piano.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-816\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Simeon loved playing the piano at Martita&#39;s<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_817\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2011\/02\/Simeon-and-Robin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-817\" class=\"size-full wp-image-817\" title=\"Simeon and Robin\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2011\/02\/Simeon-and-Robin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-817\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Robin (Martita&#39;s Husband) showing Simeon how to play<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_818\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2011\/02\/Simeon-and-piano-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-818\" class=\"size-full wp-image-818\" title=\"Simeon and piano 2\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2011\/02\/Simeon-and-piano-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-818\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More with Simeon playing the piano<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-report-this\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/delp?moderation_action=report_form&object_type=post&object_id=815&width=250&height=300\" class=\"thickbox\" title=\"Report This Post\">Report This Post<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Simeon and I (Kim) recently spent a few days in South Quito with Simeon&#8217;s babysitter (Martita) and her family.\u00a0 I must admit, I was a little nervous about it.\u00a0 The whole goal was to be immersed in Spanish all the time to help increase my knowledge and especially speaking Spanish.\u00a0 It was a little &hellip;
