{"id":2798,"date":"2014-02-13T13:27:24","date_gmt":"2014-02-13T17:27:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/delp\/?p=2798"},"modified":"2014-02-13T13:27:24","modified_gmt":"2014-02-13T17:27:24","slug":"update-on-ruthie-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/delp\/?p=2798","title":{"rendered":"Update on Ruthie!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2014\/01\/Grandparents-grandkids_funny2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2789\" alt=\"Grandparents-grandkids_funny2\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2014\/01\/Grandparents-grandkids_funny2.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/delp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2014\/01\/Grandparents-grandkids_funny2.jpg 1000w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/delp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2014\/01\/Grandparents-grandkids_funny2-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Joel&#8217;s whole family (parents and siblings) and Kim and Simeon all traveled out to Chicago yesterday. \u00a0The positive thing on the day is that we were able to get our Visas for returning to Ecuador. \u00a0Praise the Lord for that!<\/p>\n<p>More importantly, we were all heading out there to meet with the doctors at Northwestern Memorial Hospital to see what they recommend for treatment for Ruthie.<\/p>\n<p>What we have found out is that the tumors are even more extensive than what we had previously thought. \u00a0They wrap all around her neck. \u00a0The doctors said that surgery isn&#8217;t an option at this point because the tumors are so extensive. \u00a0Radiation also isn&#8217;t good because it causes so much damage and the neck is such a delicate area. \u00a0They decided that chemotherapy is the best option at this point even though chemotherapy often isn&#8217;t very effective on these types of tumors. \u00a0We are hoping and praying that since the tumors are so aggressive that chemo may be more effective now.<\/p>\n<p>Ruthie will be getting a tracheostomy, which is recommended by the physicians \u00a0preventatively so that it doesn&#8217;t have to be done in an emergency. \u00a0The tracheostomy will not help her breath at this point. \u00a0It is basically just in place for the possibility in the future that she would have difficulty breathing. \u00a0At this point she will and is able to breathe on her own and will be able to speak and swallow as she has been able to, although this has been a struggle for her since the first surgery in 2011. \u00a0Their other recommendation was for a g-tube or feeding tube placed. \u00a0Because chemotherapy is so draining, they want her to have the best nutrition she can. \u00a0She will still be able to take in what she has been, but she will just be getting additional nutrients to gain weight and be in as good as condition as possible for treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Because of these developments, we have decided to postpone our return to Ecuador so that way we can care for Ruth and Earl during the chemotherapy. \u00a0PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR HEALING! \u00a0We ask that God&#8217;s presence and love be felt throughout this whole ordeal but also that He heal Ruthie, if He so chooses to provide healing on this earth.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-report-this\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/delp?moderation_action=report_form&object_type=post&object_id=2798&width=250&height=300\" class=\"thickbox\" title=\"Report This Post\">Report This Post<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joel&#8217;s whole family (parents and siblings) and Kim and Simeon all traveled out to Chicago yesterday. \u00a0The positive thing on the day is that we were able to get our Visas for returning to Ecuador. \u00a0Praise the Lord for that!
