{"id":4585,"date":"2017-08-03T12:30:55","date_gmt":"2017-08-03T11:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/?p=4585"},"modified":"2017-08-03T12:30:55","modified_gmt":"2017-08-03T11:30:55","slug":"carrying-sali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/2017\/08\/03\/carrying-sali\/","title":{"rendered":"Carrying Sali"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2017\/08\/blog-carrying-Sali.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4586\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2017\/08\/blog-carrying-Sali.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2017\/08\/blog-carrying-Sali.jpg 450w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2017\/08\/blog-carrying-Sali-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes people wait too long to get to the hospital for treatment, sometimes they don\u2019t follow their meds and treatment schedule, and sometimes the sickness is just plain incurable.\u00a0 No matter the details leading up to death from disease, the journey is painful.\u00a0 We just carried a young man with terminal liver disease back home so he could pass away in familiar surroundings, with all of his family and friends nearby.\u00a0 He was too weak to sit up, so we created a bed in the back of Cones\u2019 truck.\u00a0 Problem is, neither Cones\u2019 nor our pick-up has a bed long enough for a person to lie comfortably in, not even diagonally because of the wheel wells.\u00a0 So S\u2019s feet were sticking out, on the lowered tailgate, while his brothers sat beside him for the trip home, quite a comical picture if the circumstances were not so serious. It reminded me of a Dr. Seuss character whose feet stuck out of bed at night.\u00a0 The guards at the borders waved us through without any of the normal red tape for crossing, for which we were thankful.\u00a0 \u00a0Kim helped carry S from the truck to his house, and they settled him in with some quiet tears and prayers. \u00a0We all continue to carry \u00a0him in our hearts.
