{"id":4048,"date":"2016-09-22T13:53:09","date_gmt":"2016-09-22T12:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/?p=4048"},"modified":"2016-09-22T13:53:09","modified_gmt":"2016-09-22T12:53:09","slug":"on-motorcycle-helmets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/2016\/09\/22\/on-motorcycle-helmets\/","title":{"rendered":"On motorcycle helmets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2016\/09\/blog-helmet.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4049\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2016\/09\/blog-helmet.jpg\" alt=\"blog-helmet\" width=\"450\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2016\/09\/blog-helmet.jpg 450w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2016\/09\/blog-helmet-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I used to work in the operating room of a busy downtown university teaching hospital.\u00a0 While working on patients who had been in accidents, I came to appreciate motorcycle helmets.\u00a0 We called them brain buckets, and there\u2019s definitely a reason for that, the details for which I won\u2019t go into for the squeamish reader.\u00a0 Awhile back when we were trying to decide on a helmet purchase for Roy, we called an experienced friend for advice.\u00a0 Here\u2019s what he said \u201cif you have a $10 brain, buy a $10 helmet\u201d.\u00a0 Needless to say, we went for a sturdier, pricier model.<\/p>\n<p>Now, when I see motorcycle riders wearing their helmets, I let them know how wise they are and how happy I am.\u00a0 The roads here are messy, bumpy, slippery, and oftentimes filled with pedestrians, goats, sheep, chickens, dogs, AND other drivers (who might be drunk \u2013 watch out!).\u00a0 We have a couple of motorcycle accident victims in the mission hospital right now, and I would venture to say that not a week goes by at the hospital without some similar injury.<\/p>\n<p>So I say, \u201cHurrah for Nadege wearing her beautiful pink helmet!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-report-this\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/danforth?moderation_action=report_form&object_type=post&object_id=4048&width=250&height=300\" class=\"thickbox\" title=\"Report This Post\">Report This Post<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I used to work in the operating room of a busy downtown university teaching hospital.\u00a0 While working on patients who had been in accidents, I came to appreciate motorcycle helmets.\u00a0 We called them brain buckets, and there\u2019s definitely a reason &hellip;
