What better way to be the guest missionary at a weekend camp for 2nd-3rd graders than to share the time\u00a0with one’s 3rd grade granddaughter! \u00a0Maddie came along with me to Portage Lake, her first church related camp experience. \u00a0Since she was actually born in Africa when her folks were short term missionaries, she was my missionary helper, or as she put it, “proof” – I guess proof that I really was there and I wasn’t making the whole thing up! \u00a0The theme was “Your Kingdom Come” and the kids learned, and laughed alot, by listening to Jerry Jacoby, an amazing musician and speaker. Hearts were blessed and I think the kids went home wishing it had been longer, with more time to laugh at Jerry and his adopted chicken, Elmer, to play games in and out of the water, to dance and sing and praise the Lord with all kinds of joy bubbling up!<\/p>\n

Gathering to worship and sing crazy songs AND roast marshmallows for s’mores.

Maddie with her new buddies at her cabin’s table (she was lovingly adopted into the cabin!) at the king’s feast, wearing the crowns they had each decorated, waiting for the king, queen, and jester to arrive, along with the entertainment of jousting etc.. \u00a0Well, they’re also waiting for their meal of chicken and sides that they ate with just their fingers. \u00a0Try doing THAT with mashed potatoes!

On the way home, Maddie & I listened to Jerry J’s songs on CDs, as well as The Magician’s Nephew.\"blog<\/a>Tired but satisfied, we are back at home, with new thoughts to think about and new friends to pray for.<\/p>\n

We are establishing relationships with the local people groups through compassion ministries; Roy through agriculture and Aleta through public health and visitation, in order, ultimately, to share the good news of Jesus the Messiah with them. CAR is one of the least developed countries in the world and is currently in continual crisis (since the coup in March 2013), so reaching out in compassion is key to reaching their hearts.
