\nHere are 4 of the current 14 kids in our mission hospital’s nutrition center. They each have severe malnutrition, but different types – you’re looking at marasmus & kwashiorkor. These children often have underlying medical problems, like TB, which helps the malnutrition to take a strong hold on their little bodies. We recently received word that our nutrition program will no longer be receiving the usual semi annual donation shipments of food staples, such as soy bean and corn flour, dried peas\/beans, oil, etc. Apparently the word (a rumor) is that World Food Bank has lost its main donors for this country, and the warehouses are empty (not a rumor – their warehouses and our container are empty). There is a possibility of the program starting up again in July, but until then, we will be adding the cost of buying those normally donated goods to an already “in the red” hospital budget.<\/p>\n
