Sobering, heart breaking, reality checking, and intense book that I had a hard time putting down. \u00a0Elie shares his journey through WWII concentration camps with his father. \u00a0He makes some true and wonderfully strong statements, like “one person can make a difference, a difference of life and death”, and “neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim”. \u00a0He writes in poetic phrases “Never shall I forget – … that night…that smoke…the small faces of the children…those flames…” \u00a0I found it to be a book that pushes one to think about how to make a difference, how to stand for justice and hope, even in the face of great challenge. \u00a0But with these honorable feelings, how do I flesh it out in every day life?<\/p>\n
