Often the water\u00a0that is available can cause sickness and disease. There are\u00a0also warring groups who may snatch up children or give\u00a0them food and then train them as soldiers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STORY:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many children who fled the fighting in the Democratic\u00a0Republic of Congo and traveled to Kenya are now a\u00a0part of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Kitengela.\u00a0Most of the children in the church are either orphans or\u00a0separated from family members. Three of those children,\u00a0Felix, John, and Francine, wonder if they will ever see\u00a0their parents again. Although they miss their parents,\u00a0they are grateful to those who care for them. During\u00a0worship, Felix, John, and Francine join in sharing songs,\u00a0Bible verses, and dancing. In spite of their hardship, each\u00a0loves Jesus.<!--more--><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Parents also face hardship when they are separated\u00a0from their children. One mother and father traveled\u00a0for three years to find their children. Day after day and\u00a0month after month they traveled from village to village\u00a0hoping to find their children. They were sick with worry\u00a0not knowing if their children were alive or dead. Finally\u00a0they arrived in Kenya. When they arrived in Kitengela\u00a0they miraculously discovered that three of their\u00a0children were already there. It was Felix, John, and\u00a0Francine. The family threw their arms around each\u00a0other. They cried, laughed, and shouted with joy,\u00a0giving thanks to God that they were back together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REFLECTION:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Why do you think Felix, John, and Francine were able to\u00a0love and worship Jesus even when they were separated\u00a0from their parents? What do you think the trip was like\u00a0for their parents? How do you know God is with you\u00a0when you are facing hardship? Find the Democratic\u00a0Republic of the Congo and Kenya on a map.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today you can pray thanking God for Felix, John, and\u00a0Francine who are once again with their parents. Pray\u00a0also for the many children who are still separated from\u00a0their parents. Your offering will help the many children\u00a0who are orphaned. It will provide clothing, food, clean\u00a0water, shelter, medical care, and an education.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Weekly, we will be posting the materials from the Kids Helping Kids: Refugee curriculum for your ease on our blog.
