Yet\u00a0more people come every day, fleeing from the war\u00a0and violence in their homeland of Syria. It\u2019s nothing like\u00a0the homes and apartments people are used to. There\u00a0is food and water, some medical help, and a couple of\u00a0hours of school offered each day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STORY:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Samira, Alia, and Layla are best friends. Samira and Alia\u00a0are eleven years old, and Layla is ten. Layla says, \u201cI was\u00a0very scared and sad to leave my country and I didn\u2019t\u00a0want to leave but we had to \u00a0because of the bombing.\u201d\u00a0Alia feels sad about leaving Syria. For her it\u2019s hard to\u00a0come to a strange place and a strange country. \u201cI don\u2019t\u00a0like living in a tent,\u201d she says, \u201cIn winter the rain will fill\u00a0the inside and we will have to go outside and wait for\u00a0them to fix it.\u201d Samira says, \u201cI was so scared. I miss living\u00a0in my beautiful house. All my cousins still live in Syria and<br \/>\nI cry always. I am afraid they will get hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Samira, Alia, and Layla do most of the chores like\u00a0sweeping out the tent or washing the floors, dishes, and\u00a0clothes because their older sisters are working in the\u00a0fields. Mostly the girls love to play and talk with each\u00a0other. Samira likes that Alia can always make her laugh.\u00a0They don\u2019t have toys but sometimes they play with\u00a0a rope. All three girls are lucky that their parents\u00a0send them to school a couple of hours each day.\u00a0Otherwise they would never learn how to read\u00a0and write.<\/p>\n<p>When the electricity goes out at night, each family lights\u00a0a candle and the family sits together. Because the camp\u00a0is so crowded and they only have plastic or cloth for\u00a0walls, it gets very loud at night. \u201cI close my ears and try\u00a0to sleep,\u201d says Samira \u201cbut I feel upset and then my ears\u00a0are hurting me.\u201d When Layla has a bad dream she says\u00a0she \u201cruns to her mom and sleeps next to her.\u201d She feels<br \/>\nsafe with her mom and dad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REFLECTION:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How is life for Samira, Alia, and Layla the same or\u00a0different from your life? If you were in their situation,\u00a0what would be the hardest thing for you? What are\u00a0ways you have helped others? How does Jesus help us?\u00a0Look at a map and find Syria and Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pray for the girls and all the children at the camp.
