Lack of\u00a0food and disease are common. Many children do not\u00a0have access to life-saving medicines. Simple illnesses like\u00a0diarrhea can become life threatening in a refugee camp\u00a0because of the lack of access to basic health care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STORY:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mohammed is four years old and weighs ten pounds. He\u00a0has no clothes except for his red plaid shirt. He and his\u00a0mother live in a straw hut. A team member spotted how\u00a0thin he was and brought him to the clinic. <!--more-->Mohammed is\u00a0crying because he is in pain everywhere. He is running\u00a0a fever. The nurses get some sugar solution ready while\u00a0talking to his mom. Her eyes are weary. Last time the\u00a0clinic gave her some soy powder, but Mohammed\u00a0became too weak to take it. Then he wouldn\u2019t even\u00a0take milk, so she has been giving him water. Those at\u00a0the clinic tenderly hold Mohammed\u2019s head and drip the\u00a0sugar water into his mouth, drop by drop. One of the\u00a0interpreters takes Mohammed and his mother into his\u00a0home for the night. The interpreter and his wife give\u00a0Mohammed\u2019s mom a hot meal and get up every two\u00a0hours during the night to help her feed Mohammed.\u00a0He then brings them back to the clinic the next day.\u00a0The clinic gives hope to Mohammed\u2019s mom that he\u00a0may still live.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REFLECTION:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Look at a map and find Burma. What are your thoughts\u00a0about Mohammed\u2019s story? Think about how little ten\u00a0pounds is. That\u2019s how much an average-sized cat weighs.\u00a0How would it feel not to have food to eat? What would\u00a0life be like if you had just one shirt? Fortunately, the\u00a0refugee camps sponsored by Covenant World Relief\u00a0have clinics to help children like Mohammed who would\u00a0otherwise never see a doctor or a nurse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pray for Mohammed and others like him who are sick.\u00a0Thank God that Mohammed is in a place where he\u00a0can get help. Explain that we help Mohammed by our\u00a0prayers and our offering which is used to purchase\u00a0medicine, food, and clothing.<\/p>\n<p><em>Weekly, we will be posting the materials from the Kids Helping Kids: Refugee curriculum for your ease on our blog.
