Our partner\u00a0Bread for the World<\/a>\u00a0has come out with a great series of\u00a0reflections for the season of Lent<\/a>\u00a0to help us remember to pray for those who are suffering around the world. Each week, we will include these readings, prayers, and actions to observe during Lent.<\/em><\/p>\n

Jesus Offers Mercy and Forgiveness
\n<\/strong>Isaiah 55:1-9
\nPsalm 63:1-8
\n1 Corinthians 10:1-13
\nLuke 13:1-9<\/p>\n

So he said to the gardener, \u201c\u2026For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none. Cut it down! Why should it be wasting the soil? [The gardener] replied, \u201cSir, let is alone for one more year\u2026If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.\u201d
\n-Luke 13:7-9<\/p>\n

[O God] Because your steadfast love is better than life,
\nmy lips will praise you.
\nSo I will bless you as long as I live;
\nI will life up my hands and call on your name.
\n-Psalm 63:3-4<\/p>\n

Prayer
\n<\/strong>O God, you call us to repentance and offer us mercy and forgiveness in Christ Jesus. Grant us faith to trust this gracious gift so that we may bear the fruit you desire, working to share the abundance of your creation with all those in need. Amen<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Action
\n<\/strong>For one week during Lent, try getting y on just two dollars a day. That\u2019s the amount that nearly a third of the world\u2019s population struggles to live on every day<\/em>. An alternative action might be to get a group of members in your church to set aside two dollars each of the 40 days in Lent \u2013 a total of $80 per person \u2013 and contribute those funds to your denomination\u2019s hunger program or a local food bank.<\/p>\n
