How Far Does it Go?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peace with God. Who should be included in the circle? What are my limits?<\/p>\n<p>One of the discoveries I\u2019ve made in this journey of peacemaking (both in Israel\/Palestine conflict and in Christian\/Muslim bridge building) is the trap we sometimes fall into thinking God\u2019s peace is all about me, or by extension about us, our tribe. That may be a harsh assessment but I bump into it all the time. Many even in churches I visit seem to fall into the idea of this narrow scope of God\u2019s love. One of my favorite gospel tracts in my early eager evangelical days was \u201cSteps to Peace with God.\u201d God knows I still need His peace in my life. But there\u2019s a subtle trap here if we stop with our own journey. And it really resembles the conversation another religious person had with Jesus that serves as the introduction to the parable of The Good Samaritan. It\u2019s very relevant to the work of peacemaking. I\u2019d even go so far as to say its foundational to what it means to follow Christ. Read the discussion Jesus had with the \u201cexpert in the law\u201d (Luke 10:25-37). When he asked \u201cwho is my neighbor\u201d he was essentially saying there ARE limits to who we should love, and how far from our own haven of peace we should venture. Think about it.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/worldlyholiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/115A5092-e1431794617542.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[88]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5301\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/worldlyholiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/115A5092.jpg?resize=300%2C215\" alt=\"115A5092\" width=\"300\" height=\"215\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>How far are you willing to take \u201cthe Gospel of Peace?\u201d (Ephesians 6:15) (Gospel literally means \u201cgood news\u201d). Many of us think only about the front door to the Kingdom (peace with God), or to our community of faith, whether Christian or some other community we are a part of. We miss the Holy Spirit calling us to exit the back door as well in order to step out into places, circles of people, that are strangers to \u201cpeace with God!\u201d In point of fact I believe if we don\u2019t take that step, if we only focus on our personal \u201cpeace with God,\u201d I truly believe we\u2019ve missed the entire message of Jesus. I truly believe that \u201cpeace for ME without peace for you\u201d is simply heresy.<\/p>\n<p>Gladly Buechner comes to my aid here.<br \/>\n<em><strong>\u201cCompassion is the sometimes fatal capacity for feeling what it\u2019s like to live inside somebody else\u2019s skin.
