In 1921, the Central Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church established Covenant Children’s Home with a mission “to show the love of Jesus Christ to children in need.” They did so by providing a safe and loving home for children who had lost a parent or whose parents were unable to care for them. By the 1990s, they were providing care for 1,700 children, but by 2000, the program was discontinued due to the decrease in state funding. Today, it is known as Covenant Children’s Ministries and continues to be a home to numerous ministries and programs that benefit children and families, as well as a strong source of grant initiatives that support ministries across the country.<\/p>\n

This past week, Covenant Children’s Ministry(CCM) saw their mission embodied yet again, as they generously gave $25,000 to Covenant Kids Congo at the Central Conference Annual Meeting. Covenant News Editor, Stan Friedman, reported that CCM’s board of directors enthusiastically agreed to support CKC’s ministry to eliminate poverty and build a better future for children.<\/p>\n

Christine Buettgen, CKC’s Project Manager, was at the event to accept the donation. “We are so encouraged by our partnership with Covenant Children’s Ministries” she says, “CCM is a wonderful example of following where God leads, even through the risks of organizational change. We are grateful for their history of service to children in need, now continued through Covenant Kids Congo.”<\/p>\n
