The\u00a0Rebel Group Seleka has taken control of the city of Bangui. There has\u00a0been fighting and looting, and Bangui residents are advised to stay in\u00a0their homes for safety.<\/p>\n<p>The drive from Gemena to Bangui is over 180 miles, but takes 8 hours\u00a0due to road conditions. While Bangui isn\u2019t so far, there is no\u00a0immediate threat to our area. However, Bangui is a major trading\u00a0center with Gemena and will certainly be impacted by the interruption\u00a0of economic activity.<\/p>\n<p>Last November we were on edge once again due to the rebel takeover of\u00a0Goma, in the Eastern Region of the Congo. Although at times there may be regional insecurity, World Vision is structured to work with local church partners and other organizations to ensure that work continues and leadership remains on the ground, especially during times of instability.<\/p>\n<p>What can we do as donors to protect our World Vision kids in times of\u00a0uncertainty like these?<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Your sponsorship of a WV child not only works toward the\u00a0development of Gemena, but is also building safety nets for children\u00a0and families during times of disaster and crisis.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Get up to date on your African current events. Read about\u00a0what\u2019s happening, and not just from Western news sources. I like <a href=\"www.newafricanmagazine.com\" target=\"_blank\">The\u00a0New African Magazine<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"www.afrik-news.com\" target=\"_blank\">Afrik News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Try to glean some understanding of the history of the\u00a0conflicts in this region by reading books like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dancing-Glory-Monsters-Collapse-Africa\/dp\/1610391071\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1365026836&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=dancing+in+the+glory+of+monsters\" target=\"_blank\">Dancing in the Glory of<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dancing-Glory-Monsters-Collapse-Africa\/dp\/1610391071\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1365026836&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=dancing+in+the+glory+of+monsters\" target=\"_blank\">the Monster<\/a> by Jason Stearns, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/King-Leopolds-Ghost-Heroism-Colonial\/dp\/0618001905\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1365026861&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=king+leopold%27s+ghost\" target=\"_blank\">King Leopold\u2019s Ghost<\/a> by Adam\u00a0Hochschild.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Pray, and don\u2019t stop. That is most powerful weapon we have\u00a0against powers of oppression, violence and war.<\/p>\n<p>Psalm 30 says: <em>\u201cI will exalt you, Lord, for you lifted me out of the\u00a0depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. Lord my God, I\u00a0called to you for help and you healed me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Heal us of our ignorance and indifference Lord, and heal this Central\u00a0African land that You love.
