Crossroads Church 5k Fun Run for Water in Congo

Crossroads Church, Cottage Grove, MN

This past Saturday May 17th was a beautiful day to run for clean water in Congo! The sun was shining, the air was crisp and over 100 people including 20 children came out to run, walk or stroll, raising $2,020 for Covenant Kids Congo powered by World Vision.
Some participants were training to run the Minneapolis Marathon next fall, and some were just hoping to walk past that 5k finish line. Whatever the personal goals were, the collective goal was the same: Raise funds for the clean water, hygiene and sanitation programs in Democratic Republic of Congo known as WASH.

With the help of Crossroads Church 5k participants, Covenant Kids Congo will improve health and reduce the amount of time women and children spend carrying water by providing deep water extraction systems, submersible pump sets powered by solar, water storage of up to 80,000 gallons, piping distribution and the installation of 40 access points to get clean water to more people in Gemena DRC.

Crossroads 5k runner Matt Atkinson expressed his enthusiasm for the event, “So excited for an awesome run on an awesome morning with awesome people for an awesome cause organized by awesome people!” Kristin Walters ran with her daughters, “So proud of my girls and their friends for completing the entire #CRCongoRun5k! Helping to bring clean water to kids in Africa…and ridding the city of Cottage Grove of it dandelions…all at the same time!”

The folks at Crossroads Church remind us that giving back is not only the right thing to do, we can have a great time and build strong families and communities in the process.
