{"id":350,"date":"2011-06-27T20:27:04","date_gmt":"2011-06-28T00:27:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/?p=350"},"modified":"2011-08-27T10:46:25","modified_gmt":"2011-08-27T14:46:25","slug":"350","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/2011\/06\/27\/350\/","title":{"rendered":"Vamos a Oaxaca"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear friends,<\/p>\n<p>As we <a title=\"Change on the Horizon\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/2011\/06\/06\/change-on-the-horizon\/\">previously wrote<\/a>, we have made the difficult decision to transition out of Monterrey this summer. \u00a0Over the past month, we have been considering other parts of Mexico where we could continue to serve with Covenant World Mission and the Covenant Church of Mexico. \u00a0And this past weekend, we decided that around the first of August we will be moving to Oaxaca in southern Mexico!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_357\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-357\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/06\/mexico_map1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-357\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/06\/mexico_map1-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/06\/mexico_map1-300x180.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/06\/mexico_map1.jpg 380w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-357\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Oaxaca is about 900 miles south of Monterrey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We were blessed to be able to visit Oaxaca as a family last week and meet with the leadership group of the Covenant church in what is know as the South District, as well as with our missionary colleagues. \u00a0While there is still a lot to define in terms of what our specific role will be, we are excited by the possibilities we discussed during our trip.<\/p>\n<p>For now, we are still in Monterrey as the boys finish up school this week, and then we will attend our all-Mexico missionary staff retreat in early July. \u00a0That will give us the rest of July to finish packing and say our good-byes before moving in August.<\/p>\n<p>We thank you for your prayers for us throughout this process. \u00a0Even though it hasn\u2019t been an easy time, we sense God\u2019s peace and leading in our decision to finish the remaining 2 to 3 years of our current term in Oaxaca, which has been far less affected by the narco-violence that has changed life for so many in Northern Mexico.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_362\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-362\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/06\/Monte-Alban-bank1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-362 \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/06\/Monte-Alban-bank1-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/06\/Monte-Alban-bank1-300x194.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/06\/Monte-Alban-bank1.jpg 479w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-362\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Erika served in Oaxaca for a year before we were married.
