{"id":1948,"date":"2017-02-06T15:24:57","date_gmt":"2017-02-06T21:24:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/?p=1948"},"modified":"2017-04-09T10:50:02","modified_gmt":"2017-04-09T15:50:02","slug":"like-mary-i-am-in-awe-of-god-at-work-in-maya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/2017\/02\/06\/like-mary-i-am-in-awe-of-god-at-work-in-maya\/","title":{"rendered":"Heart Ponderings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve tried to be more like Jesus&#8217;s mother Mary with our last child Maya Analina. \u00a0Be more intentional about pondering things in my heart, to notice and be in awe of the ways in which God&#8217;s Spirit is at work in her and through her.<\/p>\n<p>And,\u00a0God is awakening me to the many small miracles every day with Maya:\u00a0the beauty in her smile, how determined she is to learn\u00a0new things and how\u00a0proud she is of her achievement, the squeal of delight (a new thing she&#8217;s discovered in the last couple of days) when I am preparing her food or filling her sippy cup with milk, the sheer joy of discovering and studying something new (anything, a pen, a flower, a rock).<\/p>\n<p>One of the things I have noticed more recently is her innate gift of compassion and tenderness. \u00a0Maybe all babies are born with this. \u00a0I honestly don&#8217;t remember with my first two &#8211; it was all such a blur! \u00a0But Maya seems to know who in the room is struggling the most, or having a rough day, and she is naturally drawn to that person. \u00a0Whether it her momma feeling under the weather, or one of her brothers having a tough day, or a friend of mine who came by to chat and who continues to struggle with an abusive husband, or a partner in ministry\u00a0struggling with discouragement, or another friend who came to church with us yesterday and\u00a0is struggling with\u00a0an incurable disease and in order to be able to pay her medical bills has had to leave her children in her mountain village and come and work in the city. \u00a0These were all people she encouraged just this last week!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1956\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1956\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_0131.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1956\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_0131-1024x691.jpg\" alt=\"Sunday worship at our church\" width=\"600\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_0131-1024x691.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_0131-300x202.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_0131-250x169.jpg 250w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_0131-1200x810.jpg 1200w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_0131-400x270.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1956\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sunday worship at our church<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I have seen how the person in need,\u00a0in a\u00a0more vulnerable state, seems more open to the gift, and Maya senses their need and acceptance of her, so she\u00a0opens herself up to them, allowing them to hold her, to play with her, and through her laughter and smiles, she brings out the laughter in smiles in them, and in all of us who are present to this sacred moment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_6470.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1951\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_6470-1024x792.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6470\" width=\"600\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_6470-1024x792.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_6470-300x232.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_6470-250x193.jpg 250w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_6470-1200x928.jpg 1200w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/IMG_6470-400x309.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I imagine this is how our Heavenly Father is with us, too, drawing near to those who are brokenhearted, those who are vulnerable in in of His love, and with a warm, tender embrace draws us near and fills our wounded, tired hearts with laughter and joy. \u00a0What a gift life and the Giver of life are to us!
